Loved It

Just finished this story and since it has no reviews I thought I'd share my thoughts. I have read book1 with Autumn and Jude and I LOVED LOVED it!! I even read book 2 with Bailey and Trace and it was pretty great too. Then I read book 2.5 with the wedding and that was a great story as well if on the short side.

While this story is a stand alone you really should read book 1 because it really introduces Autumn's sister Summer, the single mom to daughter Abby in that story. I will be honest I didn't really like Summer in book 1, but through the other books I started to warm up to her. In this book I really started to like her alot.

This story features Travis, who was not around in book 1. Essentially he is in the military and he gets injured. His parents rush off to Germany to take care of him and then they bring him home. But he is not the same guy and he is very haunted. I think the author missed the boat on PTSD, but Travis has a lot of nightmares and magicly Summer and Abby make them go away in this book and I am not sure I buy that.

But aside from that, this story was great. I LOVED Summer in this story. She has cleaned up her act and she is worthy of Travis and Travis has a lot of really dumb moments in this story. But what man doesn't? :) Abby is just as terrific as in other stories.

We see alot of the family and Jude and Autumn and thats all really terrific.

If you like a light, happy read then you will love this book and now I can't wait for book 4 which stars the sister, Rachel.

This is Travis and Summer's book and the third book in the Southerland Series. Both Travis and Summer have things inside of them that make them think that they are broken. Travis and his injuries both inside and out from his time serving in Afghanistan. Summer just being a bad picker of men for lack of a better description. For that reason they decide to enter into a "Practical Arrangement" in hopes that they can help the other one without letting feelings get in the way. Well I am sure you can guess how well that works out. This is a wonderful book. I already loved Abby but she stole my heart even more in this book. The Southerland's are a great family and I love reading about them. Make sure you add this book to your collection today.

: 3.75 stars---PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT is the third installment in Evelyn Adams’s contemporary, adult THE SOUTHERLANDS romance series focusing on the Southerland family. This is Afghanistan war veteran Travis Southerland, and single mother Summer Maddox’s story line. PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. The reader is first introduced to Summer in book one-Feels Like Home-Summer is Autumn’s younger sister.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Summer and Travis) PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT follows the ‘friends with benefit’ arrangement between single mother Summer Maddox and former US soldier Travis Southerland. Travis suffers nightmares and PTSD following the death of his entire unit in the Middle East but finds he is able to sleep without the nightmares and cold sweats when in the company of Summer Maddox. While never professing to love Summer, Travis makes her a deal-marriage, a father to her daughter Abby, and all the benefits of husband and wife-but not once does he offer romance and love. What ensues is the building relationship between our leading couple wherein Summer begins to fall in love, and Travis begins to pull away.

All of the previous story line characters play secondary and supporting roles including Travis’s large extended family. The world building continues to focus on family, friendships as well as one man’s inability to let go of the past.

PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT is a quick read; a sweet romance between two people who fell in love over a common bond-a young child whose heart was big enough to bring everyone together. The premise is entertaining and engaging but I felt that the author missed out by not expanding more on Travis and Summer as individuals and together-as they say the’ story is in the details’; the ending felt like a rush to the finish. What little external conflict presented was over in a matter of a few sentences. The romance is a slow build to a happily ever after.

If you are a fan of family, friendships, broken heroes and happily ever afters, pick up a copy of PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT to enjoy.

Beautiful and challenging enough

My first order only the flute part insert was sent. I contacted Amazon and both the flute and piano parts were sent. I have played through the flute part and appreciate the challenge of the arrangements for an intermediate flutist like myself (played middle and high school but no private lessons). I have tried some of the piano accompaniment to get a feel for it and love the jazzy tones. I can't wait to play this with our church pianist.

The piano part is harder than the flute-

The songs are beautiful and fun but it is difficult to find someone to play with. The accompaniments take work even for experienced pianists, and the typical church pianists in my small churches have rarely been willing to tackle these. One of the few cons of living in the boonies.I have an accomplished sister who lives in another state and as soon as her wrist is out of the cast, she will send me a recording. I'd really like for these to come with an accompaniment recording for that reason.
One star off for this inconvenience. I'm a solid intermediate player, (right in the middle of average) and I think the piano parts must be a lot harder than the flute parts.
There was this extremely talented lady in Arthur NE baptist church (never heard of it have you) who could just sit down and play these without batting an eye, so maybe you'll get lucky.

About the Author

Born in 1828, Henrik Ibsen was a Norwegian playwright and poet, often associated with the early Modernist movement in theatre. Determined to become a playwright from a young age, Ibsen began writing while working as an apprentice pharmacist to help support his family. Though his early plays were largely unsuccessful, Ibsen was able to take employment at a theatre where he worked as a writer, director, and producer. Ibsen s first success came with Brand and Peter Gynt, and with later plays like A Doll s House, Ghosts, and The Master Builder he became one of the most performed playwrights in the world, second only to William Shakespeare. Ibsen died in his home in Norway in 1906 at the age of 78.

A bucket list play about song birds in cages

I had heard a lot of negatives about this book but enjoyed it and found it hard to put down. I can see the craft of Ibsen. As one teaching himself Norwegian, I found it interesting to be able to see the original and actually could read more than I thought. This play is revolutionary for its time and still has resonance today with regards the emancipation of women and indeed human beings from slavery in the guise of domesticity and other forms of legal societal structures. I think a lot of men would find this book says much about the mantles we put on but which are no much better than ball and chain. I imagine that this book would be seen as shocking in some more traditional and rigid cultures.

It's more for someone who is familiar with the Norwegian ...

It's more for someone who is familiar with the Norwegian language. For a beginner, I would suggest children's stories.

Having read Company of Adventurers, I read his first book again and enjoyed it far more. There are a few adventures that are unbelievable but he tells a good tale. I prefer other African hunter's tales more - such as Pondoro- but this book is worth owning. You'll read it more than once!

This is a great book if you are interested in African as it was when men first started the exploration and settlement of the Dark Continent. I found it riveting and very revealing of the character of men that it takes to under take such exploration. It also reveals the character of many of the Natives of the Continent that John Boyes met. Some great and there were some who where not so great.

About the Author
Hanna Karlzon is an Ume�, Sweden-based illustrator and creator of the best-selling coloring books, Dagdr�mmar and Sommarnatt, previously published in Sweden. She creates elaborately detailed images using India ink to detail pictures from her own imagination and loves to draw flowers, forests, houses, and animals. She draws her inspiration from the natural world that surrounds her studio in northern Sweden and adds in some art nouveau, punk rock, and often a hint of ‘70s design to the mix.

Well worth the wait!

Magical Dawn is a reprint of Magisk Gryning, in Hanna Karlzon's home country of Sweden. This is printed on the same quality paper. I pre-ordered this book months ago and the wait was well worth it! Hanna Karlzon's books are all excellent books.The quality of the paper, and the design of the book, hard-covered, makes it a true gem to have an any colorists library. Another thing that I like about her books, is that they have over 90 pages of coloring. Imagine that! You have quality, price, and amazing content, which together makes Magical Dawn a completely fantastic book. I had to color at least one picture immediately,

Absolutely gorgeous!

Gorgeous book! I love all of her books and this one did not disappoint. Paper quality is great as always. The pictures are amazing. I love that she added in some different elements this time with potion bottles, and little creatures like a flying toad. I highly recommend this book as well as her other books.

Inspired, but dissapointed

I'll give it 3 stars, because I got a lot of ideas in this book which actually inspired me. The fact that the patterns doesn't work for me hasn't stopped me from learning a lot from it.

I have followed two pattern design courses and am designing my own clothes which fit pretty well. I bought this book because I also wanted to be able to design a bra, which wasn't included in my courses. Unfortunately the bra block givin in this book doesn't consider the underbust measurement - only the bust measurement itself. The cupsize of a bra is determined by subtracting the underbust measurement from the bust measurement and the support of a bra comes from the snug underbust fit. For that reason I couldn't get the bra pattern to fit me (cup turned out too small, while band too big around body) and I am busy to figure it out myself by adjusting the lower dart to fit my underbust measurement while making a bigger curve towards the bustpoint.

Still the back cover of the book claims that all the patterns has been tested and therefore works. I suppose it could work for someone with a much smaller cupsize (the bust line not much bigger than the underbust).

Also, according to the author's instructions to the bodice block, all women's bust points are at the same height. (half of the nape of neck to waist measurement plus 4 cm's toward the waist). That simply isn't true, so I'm using my own bodice block where you have to measure your (individual) height of your bust point and mark it on the pattern accordingly.

I was very excited when the book arrived in the mail and started working immediately. Unfortunately I was quite dissapointed soon afterwards.

Thoughts from a lingerie / eveningwear designer.... excellent!

Why 5 stars:
1) It is metric - this means that you can work in the smallest and most precise measurements you need (0.2 CM doesn't translate onto an imperial tape measure) With contour designs such as lingerie, precision is everything. Being out slightly on seams does not affect the fit of most garments, but when they are skin tight, precision is everything.
2) Bras, corsets, lounge pants - it is all in here. I am a skilled pattern maker and used this book while putting together a collection - the patterns work. All patterns that you make from basic blocks do need to be pretested - to check for fit against a standard model - and more so if you are making bespoke clothing for someone that isn't a 'standard' B cup. But if you consider the properties of the fabric you use, these patterns work. I have used them. Fabric is crucial in any design so a muslin made for panties out of calico is never going to fit the same as the one using powernet. Similarly, corsets can stretch most fabrics, so samples need to be made carefully.
3) It allows for size - with this book, you draft a basic block (bodice etc) and work from that. If you start with the right block, and factor in cup size adjustments, then you will do well.
4) Because it provides you with basic blocks to work from, if you are creative you can design to your hearts content - simply making alterations at the pattern drafting or toiling stages.
5) This book is all about the foundations we wear - which now are often also used as outerwear. If you make bridal gowns, evening wear, or even some sports wear - these all have traces back to lingerie blocks. Think the strapless wedding dress corset bodice, or the lingerie style summer dresses, or even the lounge pants that translate into easy fitting loose linen casual pants.

This book relies on knowledge of pattern making, construction, fitting and the use of a toile or two. But what it provides, is the freedom from commercial patterns and their limitations. This is not a book for those who have no/little experience in pattern making from scratch - as it will be confusing and tackling areas that rely on this knowledge. But as a desiger - it is a great addition to the bookshelf, you will use it if only for the basques and bustier blocks that are the foundation for so many eveningwear designs.

How could it be better? Produce an accompanying sewing technique book for those not trained in lingerie construction, the singer books and other lingerie books are at a different level to this. Without understanding the order of construction, then you likely won't get the most from this book - every toile/muslin needs to be carefully constructed, otherwise patterns cannot be correctly tested = frustration and disappointment in the book itself.

Great for what needed

I bought this book along with How to Make Sewing Patterns by McCunn. With some previous knowledge (10 yrs prior, so it's been awhile & definitely not fresh) I was able to use this book easily for swimwear & lingerie. There is LOTS of lingerie & lounge wear, some I had never heard of or seen.

I wish more explanation was given about working with spandex fabrics & elastic tape, but alas, they just gave you the fish instead of teaching you fishing. Some initiative is required for a deeper understanding, if that's what you are after.

Other than that I found the instructions for basics easy to follow (especially with a computer-aided drafting program, rather than by hand. TONS of time saved!!!). After doing all the basics the book provided of, lets say bra tops, I felt I had enough experience to confidently use the same techniques to do my own designs & they came out perfect or near perfect on the first try!

I'd definitely recommend this book to someone who catches on easily.

One of the classic books on liquids and liquid mixtures. Even though it is old it should stand on every researchers bookshelf. It is a good reference book and presents basic ideas in a very clear way!

I had to bought this book for a class I'm attending. I first read the preview available for this book and I was kind of nervous to buy this book but I had no choice, it was necessary. The only thing I want to say is that book should not be consulted except if it is really necessary... There is virtually no links between the parts of chapters and even between the chapters. You never know what the author is trying to explain. The information is always partial, there is plenty of references to paliated this lack of usefull information. Nevertheless, I think that it is not to complicated to understand. This is mainly why I have deceided to give it 2 stars. I strongly not recommend this book to anyone: students, teachers and professionnals. There must be many better book out there! In fact, I don't think that any book can be worst. I haven't read all the book yet but I'm pretty sure that the last chapters won't be more exciting than the first half.

Holy cow! Over-rated!

This book was horrible. It was either too complex, or much too simplistic. There was no measure of explanation on the connections between the various subjects, and no tying in of the various concepts 'learned'... This was bad... DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!
