Shana's Guardian (Jackson Settlement #2)
Shana's twenty-fourth birthday hovers on the horizon like a death sentence. She's the oldest eligible woman in Jackson Settlement, and she dreads the day her guardian, Uncle Daman, announces her marriage.
Her feelings for her widowed uncle are complicated, especially because they aren't related by blood. Daman is a strict man who wields a mighty paddle, but Shana has grown to love him wholeheartedly in the years after her parents' death.
To her surprise, he proposes they get married. Of course, he's upfront with her about his expectations in a wife. If she marries him, she'll be subject to spankings and more intimate discipline when she misbehaves.
Will Shana accept his terms of marriage? Even worse, will the threats looming outside the settlement barriers doom their relationship before it even has a chance to begin?

Review
".....a compelling, titillating, read. It caught me from the first page, and I read it all the way through, hanging on every word. For such hybrid of subgenres -spanking romance, domestic discipline, age play, bdsm, and science fiction--it works and author Sue Lyndon writes with an economy of style that gets right to the heart of the story." ~ 5 stars, Cara Bristol - author of Unexpected Consequences and False Pretenses
From the Author
I enjoyed writing Daman and Shana's story so much that I decided to go back to the beginning and write a prequel called Daman's Ward, which is now available for download. Since Daman's Ward takes place before their marriage, the prequel focuses on exploring the disciplinary side of their relationship. If you think discipline spanking is hot, you'll probably enjoy Daman's Ward. The books can be read in any order.

A Naughty Pleasure
By Cara Bristol
After the earth is hit by triple whammy of a plague, a great war and severe solar flares, life takes a harsher turn. Living is simplified and women have become, once again, the property of men. Against this backdrop, a teen-age Shana goes to live with Daman, her uncle by marriage after the death of her parents.
Her "uncle" is kind but strict, and doesn't hesitate to spank her when he feels she deserves it, such as when she endangers her life and sneaks out of the settlement with her friends on a lark to visit gypsies. Over time Shana's regard for her guardian changes from gratitude to the love of a woman for a man, and when she reaches her majority, her uncle contrarily turns away potential husbands for her and his punishments become harsher. Finally he admits his feelings have changed to a man's love for a woman, and asks her marry him. And she finds that as his wife, the punishments get harsher still.
Wow! This book packs a wallop. If you don't care for kink with your spanking, keep your training wheels on your bike and ride on by. But if you do, you'll find this to be a compelling, titillating, read. It caught me from the first page, and I read it all the way through, hanging on every word. For such hybrid of subgenres -spanking romance, domestic discipline, age play, bdsm, and science fiction--it works and author Sue Lyndon writes with an economy of style that gets right to the heart of the story.

Shana learns to obey her guardian after submitting to physical consequences
By K.A. Camaro
I want to start off by saying I adore Sue and her books. I love the ideas that she comes up with, especially her female characters who are usually a mix of sensuality, innocence, and a little bit rebellious.
Shana crumbled as soon as Daman made his intent to marry her clear. She went from worrying about being home on time and wanting to please him as she remembered past punishments to a completely submissive slave. It seemed like her spark left.
I know why with the unusually harsh punishments that were dealt and I had a hard time connecting with Uncle Daman after he over does the one before he is to leave town. I had thought that Shana was going to be tempted to leave the settlement as she had done earlier but such a collaboration of implements and punishment prior was too much for me.
Despite this I read this story in just under two hours and wished there had been a little more to it. I was not disappointed in the length, I just had been hoping for more to do with Shana's friends and their escape plans because there was a lot of focus on that.
Overall, I did enjoy the alternate punishment that Shana received very early on in the book. I will hint only that it contains a thermometer and is one of the hottest scenes that I have EVER read. Sue has slipped in a thermometer scene in several of her books and it does not disappoint. It was done in a very dominating manner and Shana is in a very submissive mindset as it is being done.
Their intimacy is also very well written both before and after the wedding. Though before was more of Daman's torment that he could not have full access to his little niece. I also have to mention that I thought it may be creepy to have her call him `Uncle' but they were not related by blood and you come to see that it is more of a title of respect. The town does not bat an eye either as we were led to believe so perhaps a lot of it is more in Shana's mind then actually in the eyes of the town.
I must also state that you get so wrapped up in Shana and Daman's relationship that part of you forgets that they are living in a post apocalyptic type world where solar flares destroyed all modern day comforts. The setting gives the feel that you are reading a book from back in early colonial times though Shana mentions that one of the older women in her settlement talks of cell phones, computers, and other technology. It is very easy to get wrapped up in her world without questioning the origin. Very nicely done!
Even with Daman's very firm hands and slightly rough ideas of punishment I have decided to give Shana's Guardian five stars!

Dialogue is a strength as is the relationship between the two!
By AlexJouJou
I'm a fan of post-apoc dystopian books so when you combine it with spanking that's a huge win for me. Shana and Daman were interesting characters with a very historical feel. It felt late 1800's with the whole dresses thing (apparently that is what women wear in this world) rather than more like Revolution the TV Show (which is more what I expected albeit with a male dominance twist). I liked the world building and would have enjoyed even more thrown in.
The relationship between Shana and Daman was very natural (though he is only her "Uncle" as he was married to her mother's sister so no blood relation at all). Shana is a bit of a contradiction - she seems innocent but she's really not. I would have liked more exploration of this. She and her friends clearly could be "naughty" but there is "naughty" and there is NAUGHTY and I got the feeling it was always the former and never the latter so when she displays the latter later through ageplay it felt a bit off for her character. Plausible but would have enjoyed a bit more to get me to the place where it felt more natural.
I really liked the story and the world. The spanking and sex is hot but it was almost always told from his point of view so it had a very telling feel instead of showing. You only saw her reactions when he observed them - it just wasn't as descriptive as I like my spanking and sex scenes to be. My preference is to feel like I'm right there in her place rather than merely observing from afar. It starts to get there in places but never really pushes itself over the cliff.
On the other hand this is balanced as Daman's words were very hot - I wanted more of them. Especially during sex - I love it when the guy tells the woman what he is doing. I had a total picture of Daman in my mind and got very melty when he would say dirty things to her. I really appreciated that he didn't use verbal humiliation and it was more about the facts of what he was doing. That just gets me hotter. The "intimate punishment" was also good - I do like me some of this type of discipline.
Overall a good book especially for those who enjoy spanking and dystopian stories!
