This is easily the greatest book on an artistic subculture that formed around a group of kids in Virginia. AMAZING stuff here. If you want to read it, I bet your eyes would be beneficial to you. I wouldn't reccomend trading your eyeballs for this book, since in doing so you'll have surrendered your ability to appreciate such a fantastic book. I haven't read it. I made that mistake. luckily I'm a quarter reptillian, and they'll grow back twice as foxy...

Mick Cooper succeeds admirably in his principle aim of providing "a user-friendly introduction to research findings in therapy" and also in his further aim of writing a book which is "accessible to all and oriented towards practice" .He has done a phenomenal job in reviewing vast amounts of material which he has digested and integrated in an attempt to answer various questions which researchers have asked, and he has drawn out the "implications for practice". I am also very impressed with the easy way in which he introduces necessary statistical concepts such as Cohen's d (effect size) and ED 50 (median effective 'dose'). I also like the way in which he encourages thought and debate with his 'Questions for Reflection' at the end of each chapter. Mick Cooper is a very engaging writer and it's hard not to love this book"

A most useful book for practicing psychotherapists

This book is a valuable desk-top resource and a pleasant surprise. Readers will quickly gain up-to-date information on comprehensive research not only on the effectiveness of psychotherapies but what makes them effective and under what conditions. Dr. Cooper is an excellent guide who anticipates readers'questions and makes them accessible with user friendly organization. The book covers the big questions: does therapy work? Which approaches are most proven for what issues? It also divides data into specifics: What client factors,what therapist factors, what relationship factors lead to the best outcomes? Very useful for both practicioner and student. A complete readthrough will be most useful as well as consultation for particular issues like: how important is listening? advice? particular techniques? Very glad to have this book.

unbiased and of course friendly

This book is indeed essential, although an update would be nice. It is well organized and makes some important concepts clear. It is easy to read yet doesn't fall into the trap of oversimplifying the research, which many sources do in order to promote or discredit a particular brand of psychotherapy. It is so unbiased that I sometimes craved a little editorial commentary, e.g. about how CBT is way overvalued because it's easily manualized and thus more thoroughly studied. I also would like to have seen commentary about who science-based psychotherapy is not just about outcomes. But unlike me, this book has no mission other than making psychotherapy and counseling outcome research easy to understand and learn from. Too bad this book is not well promoted in the USA, it would help both sides in the APA vs. APS, skill vs. science debate be better informed.

Very well done. Great book.

I am a huge fan of the Space Marines and after reading all the others it was time to read one from the enemy perspective. Yes, I've probably read all the space marines books I can find. However, I don't like the books without space marines. So, chances are if it has space marines I have read it. If its about the eldar or imperial navy, I have probably not read it.
This book is excellent. It conveys chaos space marines brilliantly. Well organized, well written, with enough suspense to keep you interested and intrigue to keep you guessing. This is a must read for a warhammer 40k fan.

Makes you feel like a terrible person but it's just so good.

This book is brutal. Hands down.

The omnibus starts a little slow so heads up there. However it kicks into gear and you want to just burn through it. I devoured about 200 pages in one day. I think the book is scared to even look at me now.

Anyways, the story is awesome. It makes you feel like a terrible person when you read it because the main characters are so evil. This sin;t really a spoiler, more common sense but the Word Bearers kill citizens of the Imperium. Thing is though, the book really humanizes their victims. It will tell the story from both sides and the result is that when reading, you get this constant feeling of unease at the atrocities the Word Bearers commit. You're just like "Oh my god, are they really going to get away with this? Are they seriously gonna succeed?" and it causes this huge feeling of tense anticipation that just makes you want to read page after page. It's just so cool you read it anyway even though the WB's are complete A-holes.

It gives a GREAT insight into chaos. I don't really play the tabletop so the only Warhammer exposure I have is via novels and the space marine video game. I knew about chaos before going into this book but it really scratches that itch in the sense that the book expands on chaos quite a bit. (A significant Chaos figure even makes a quick appearance)

I'd place this omnibus in my top five easily. I really hope they make a second one.

This Omnibus also has one of the coolest characters I've ever read. Burias Drak'shall is a character who we the reader have the pleasure of experiencing. In a weird kind of way, the book is more about Burias in a style of almost a classical Greek Epic tale. I can't spoil anything here but hopefully people who have read it know what I mean.

Amazing!

Long time Warhammer fantasy and 40K fan...

This is one of the best Warhammer books I have ever read.

There is everything in this omnibus...Titans, huge land battles, Tech Magos, Spaceship battles, Loyalist vs. Traitor marines, Eldar, Deamons, Tyranids, Necron, Imperial soldiers....you get the idea.

If you want an all encompassing look into the Warhammer 40k world, this is a great book!

Not to mention it was VERY interesting reading from the Chaos Marine viewpoint (my favorite Chaos book before this was Storm of Iron).

I am partial to the Empire of mankind so even though I enjoyed the stories, I could not root for the traitors and was torn reading the book as literally millions of loyal citizens and dozens of venerable heroes are wiped out in the face of Chaos cruelty.

I read some reviews where there was some detailed criticsm.
There are very few fantasy or modern SciFi novels that are literary masterpieces and this is not one of them. But I am pretty critical and I thought all the stories were extremely well written. The battles and events took me in my mind to those places so I consider that to be a key success when reading.

For the Warhammer enthusiast, I can't imagine that this omnibus would not be loved for the content of the stories alone.

This book will stay on my shelves as a loved collector's piece and loved read. I highly recommend it.

Not the most informative book on Egyptian history, but then again it IS an ATLAS!

Many people are writing that this book did not satisfy their desire for facts and more in-depth explanations of Egyptian history, and that the book's text is not informative. This book is not meant for that purpose, and is really and truly an atlas. The maps are what matter.
In that reguard it serves its purpose and more. The maps are extremely easy to follow, clearly labelled and idenitified, colorful, and most of all- informative. One can tell so much about a period of history by analyzing a map, particularly several which have trade routes, battle sites, important roads and cultural sites CLEARLY marked. Who could ask for anything more! This atlas is wonderful, and is, I repeat, an atlas.
Anyways? What kind of person sits down and reads an atlas? I mean, seriously, its just a reference book, its not a novel. Its not supposed to tell wonderful stories and dazzle you with vibrant facts, its just maps, and anything else, is extra.

Interesting idea

This book provides a great deal of information on 3000 years of Egyptian history in an unusual format. The book consists of many single-page essays on a particular topic or period, with the essay on the left side of the page, and the corresponding map on the other side of the page, which illustrates what's going on in the text. It's sort of an interesting way to write a history book of ancient Egypt, and I thought it worked out pretty well. Although not your typical history, it's still an interesting and useful book, especially for getting a quick overview of a particular subject or topic.

A Pretty Good Job

Much nonsense has been written about ancient Egypt, trying too hard to
simplify its huge complexities over 3,000 and more years. Its history is
mainly known through Manetho, an Egyptian priest who wrote in Greek
from sources he could not identify. Known not in Manetho's writing but
in references in the works of non-Egyptian writers, like Josephus. Bill
Manley has put together an historical atlas that combines pages of informed
textual information and engaging maps. There are gaps in his coverage, and
not everyone will agree with some of his descriptions or map borderlines. For
example, he is not very clear on the pre-Israelites and the Israelites. Sad to say,
neither is anybody else. But this is as good an historical atlas of ancient Egypt
as there is.
